dog obedience training and behavior modification
The Barking Lot is committed to providing you with the resources you need to enjoy life with your dog. In keeping with that commitment, we promise that our Training methods offer fun, positive educational sessions that build the bond between you and your dog and provide both of you with the effective communication, understanding and respect necessary to develop a well-behaved pet. We use positive reward based training methods - no prong, pinch, choke or e-collars will be allowed. Please note that we do not accept human aggressive dogs.
Daycare and Train:
Obedience Training:
A Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) will conduct a training session with your dog on the days she or he is here for daycare. The trainer will review what was done and show you what to do to reinforce what was trained. Training is a process and it can take weeks for a dog to properly learn a behavior. A dog's mental and emotional ability is roughly the equivalent of a 2 to 2 1/2 year old child, just as a child doesn't learn a word the first time she or he hears it, a dog does not learn obedience the first time it is instructed. Results are dependent upon active participation by the dog's owner after each session, as well as the individual temperament and ability of each dog. Follow through on the owner's part is required in order for the dog to actually learn the behaviors properly. You can choose which behaviors you want trained or you can ask the trainer what behaviors are most important for your lifestyle. Space is very limited for this service. If we do not have a space for your dog we can put you on a wait list until a current trainee graduates. Please contact us to set up a free evaluation with our trainer.
Requirements:
$30 per session in addition to your daycare rate (see Daycare page for prices)
Behavior Modification Training:
Behavior modification training would cover issues such as pulling while on leash, jumping on people, play biting and others. Behavior is modified using positive reinforcement methods, no physical punishment is ever used here. A Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) will conduct a modification session with your dog on the days she or he is here for daycare. The trainer will review what was done and show you what to do to reinforce it. Training is a process and it can take weeks for a dog to properly learn or change a behavior. A dog's mental and emotional ability is roughly the equivalent of a 2 to 2 1/2 year old child, just as a child doesn't learn a word the first time she or he hears it, a dog does not learn a new behavior the first time it is instructed. Follow through on the owner's part is required in order for the dog to actually learn the behaviors properly. Not all behavior problems can be addressed with this type of training, examples would be house training, digging in the backyard, fence barking, etc. Set up a consultation with our trainer to determine if this program is suitable for your dog. Space is very limited for this service. If we do not have a space for your dog we can put you on a wait list for a space as the current trainees graduate.
